In addition to the Board of Trustees, the Sugar Grove Fire Protection District has an appointed Board of Fire Commissioners. This board plays a crucial role in the staffing and personnel management within the department.

The Board of Fire Commissioners is responsible for establishing eligibility lists for firefighter hiring and promotional lists for advancing fire officers to various ranks within the department. They also handle disciplinary hearings and make recommendations as needed under the Illinois Firefighters Disciplinary Act.

Commissioners are appointed by the Board of Trustees and must reside within the boundaries of the Fire Protection District, ensuring they are closely connected to the community they serve.
