Mission Statement
The mission of the Sugar Grove Fire Protection District is to provide professional and highly trained personnel that can respond to fire, EMS, hazardous conditions, aircraft, and rescue emergencies to those that live within or may pass through our borders. We pledge to do this with humility, empathy, resourcefulness, and fiduciary responsibility.
Department History
The Sugar Grove Fire Protection District was established in 1942, originally founded by a dedicated group of more than 30 members, some of whom are pictured here. The first official meeting of the Fireman’s Association was held on April 3, 1946.
The district’s early days included the purchase of two essential fire engines: a 1946 Dodge (right) and a 1953 International Harvester (left). The original fire station was a block building designed to house four pieces of equipment, but it lacked office spaces or restrooms.
Today, the Sugar Grove Fire Protection District is a combination department, staffed with full-time personnel and paid-on-call members who are trained at various levels in firefighting and emergency medical services. The district is equipped with Paramedic ambulances and includes personnel trained in specialized areas such as Special Rescue, Hazardous Materials, and Auto Extrication.
